General Elections are all about rallies. People got to go and listen to what the different parties have to say and see what they have to offer you if they're elected. Make a wise choice, DO NOT VOTE BLINDLY.

Someone said to me: "Aiya, anyway who I vote also doesn't matter mah. I only got 1 vote, what can my 1 vote do?"

Ya, that's true. But if everyone thinks the way you do and just vote randomly, YOU will be the one who WILL suffer for your choice down the road. YOU will be the one who might cause the DOWNFALL of Singapore someday. Think about it.

Anyway I'm not here to preach. I shall assume that you are all intelligent people and will know how important this is in due time (Stupid people won't understand no matter what). I'm here to...BLOG ABOUT THE RALLIES!!!!

I've been to a rally once in GE 1997. But all I remembered about it was that my cousin and I dropped our whole packet of Skittles and he still picked then up to eat. EWWWW...!! But on Sunday (30.04.06), I went to the Worker Party's Rally at Hougang and OMG! It was such a good experience!

Went out at around 7pm.

A traffic jam started somewhere along Boundary Road. OMG! So it is really true that Worker Party's rallies cause traffic jams!

We were stucked for about an hour. We parked at a HDB estate and went to the rally by foot, because we know that if we want to park at the rally site, we will be stuck till 12am. Lotsa people were walking to the rally site with us.

When we reached there:

This was a booth selling Worker Party flags and newsletters.

The rally was held at this large empty field and there was mud everywhere, probably caused by rain the day before (Luckily I wore my Adidas and not slippers). Nevertheless, alot of people still turned up. When I say 'alot', I really mean ALOT.

Attempted picture of the crowd. But it was just too dark and I was blocked by everyone. I can't even see the stage! (The bluish-whitish bright spot was the stage)

We bravely ventured INTO the crowd and:

This is a picture amidst the crowd. Phew! I can finally see the stage.

Movin' further into the crowd...

We made our way in and started to settle down when I spotted this:

Other than people on the field itself, there were one whole stretch of people standing behind the stage where the private housing estates are! (The crowd circled in red were just a small bunch of them)

At this point in time, I took a look around me and was STUNNED!

(*pardon me, but from here onwards, the photos were mostly taken using my handphone, which doesn't have an optical zooming function, because my camera's battery went flat.)

Okay, this is the nearest HDB block. (Don't ask me why this pic is so small, I also dunno.)

The black patches circled in red are people. The colourful specks circled in green are people too. These 2 groups of people are standing on the staircases of each levels of the block. The blue circle shows those people looking out from their units thru the windows.

This is the crowd to my left. The portion circled in red is a multi-storey carpark where lotsa people congregated to watch the rally too.

More crowds...

And more...

Spectacular, isn't it?

I'll not elaborate much on the contents of the rally, don't want to create a propaganda on the internet. But it's definitely interesting to hear different sides to a story. If any of you are interested, you may visit the party's website. Same for PAP and the other opposition parties, SDA and SDP.

Approx half an hour before the rally officially ends, we spotted this:

Okay. It's a very blurred picture (I think digital zooming makes the picture appear smaller). But anyway there's this small red van-like vehicle parked at the private housing estates. Lots of men in what looks like blue uniforms in the dark and red berets were walking around that same area. My Dad said they were suppose to suppress the crowd in case riots occur. WOW! SO COOL! I guess there's really too many people there already.

I managed to take a picture of Low Thia Kiang giving a speech:

Yes, the man circled in red is Low Thia Kiang.

Nearing the end of the rally:

The crowds cheering on the Worker's Party!! Some waved their flags, some shouted words of encouragement to the opposition party and almost everyone were putting their hands up in the air and clapping vigorously!! Everyone was having a high time!!!

This is to prove that we were indeed at the rally. HAHA.

10pm:

The Worker Party leaving in 'a stream of cars'.

We were ready to leave too. But not before taking a picture:

The crowd who were still there chanting, "WORKER PARTY! WORKER PARTY! WORKER PARTY!"

What a fun-filled night! I think there are millions of people there loh. SERIOUSLY! And of all age groups too. From approx 8 years old - 80 over years old. Lots of people my age! They came in groups. I guess they're also very enthu about being able to vote for the first time also. Heehee.

I'll end it here then. Remember: Voting is compulsary. Your vote is a secret.
